Life at SEDI-ATI

Working at SEDI-ATI during the COVID-19 period and after

Our Business Continuity Plan in place since early March, proves to be extremely efficient. We welcome the fact that none of our employees at the workplace have been ill from this particular outbreak.

We maintain production with social distancing protections in effect, cleaning and disinfection measures, frequent handwashing, and the wearing of masks everywhere in the company.

We allow only critical visitors to enter our facilities after they have completed a health questionnaire. Our policy of social distancing and mandatory wearing of masks is also applicable to all external visitors.

We have implemented a mandatory work-from-home policy for job functions that could be performed remotely. Plans were developed to decide who returns, when and how, with initial focus on essential operations as well as who could continue to work from home.
We will continue to evaluate the plan and update it based on employee and management input.

» When the COVID-19 situation started two months ago, we felt quite anxious about staying at the workplace. Hopefully, we all have been swiftly reassured by the implemented measures. «

» The health and well-being of all employees is definitely a key consideration for SEDI-ATI. From this arises a better atmosphere, greater solidarity within the team and better efficiency at all levels. «

Case study

Monitoring of insulated electrical transformers using fiber optic sensors

Insulated electrical transformers are one of the most critical and expensive investments in today’s electric power transmission and distribution systems. Therefore, monitoring the health state of transformers with accuracy and prompt information is the critical prerequisite to predict fatal failures, optimize the maintenance and make a vital decision on a transformer with suspicious conditions.

Fiber optic sensors made from dielectric materials, such as fused-silica glass, are excellent candidates for on-line and real-time monitoring. Indeed, besides their small size and light weight, they offer unique advantages such as immunity to electromagnetic interferences, stability, repeatability, durability against extreme environments, and fast response.

SEDI-ATI has developed built-in sensors consisting in optical fiber cables made of multimode silica glass optical fibers that can be submerged in transformer mineral oil or SF6 gas. They are placed inside the transformer tank. An in-line hermetic fiber optic feedthrough on the transformer tank wall allow to safely pass the fiber optic sensor through the tank wall without affecting the insulation integrity of the transformer.

Product focus

Fiber-optic ribbon hermetic feedthroughs for vacuum applications

Fiber-optic ribbon hermetic feedthroughs are ideal for vacuum applications where a large number of fibers is required in a compact assembly. Such feedthroughs are hermetically sealed on a CF or KF flange to ensure a high level of hermeticity better than 10-8 mbar.l/s.

They accept up to 2 ribbons of either singlemode fibers or multimode graded-index fibers 50/125 μm, with a high channel count up to 12., i.e. 24 fibers. The ribbons are protected by a stainless-steel tubing, terminated with either male or female MTP® connectors with either flat polish or 8° angle polish.

Key features

  • inline-style
  • multi-fiber ribbon up to 24 counts
  • 12 or 24-fiber MTP® connector termination
  • singlemode or Graded Index fibers
  • CF or KF flange
  • bare ribbon or stainless-steel tubing
  • vacuum applications
